I have started this email seven times and each time there is a curse word in the first sentence. With dangerously smoky air, friends losing their houses to fire, the EPA ignoring the “P” in their name, and some kind of insane Twitter nonsense, it has been a brutal week. Absolutely brutal.
What is a person to do? What is a parent to do?
Put your oxygen mask on.
Just like on airplanes, we need to take care of ourselves first so that we can help others. When the world feels like it’s blowing up, this is especially true. So this week I have self care ideas for you.
1. Chocolate. Come on, you knew I was going to start with that. It is good for you in all kinds of ways. Really!
2. Check out these 101 ways to take care of yourself. Surely there’s one on here you can do.
3. Watch this.
4. And then watch this.
Then let me know how you feel. And what you think. And how you’re going to be awesome today.
Next week we’ll have ways to help the people, plants, animals, and land that is burning right now. There’s a lot of healing and restoration and rebuilding to do. Stay tuned for that.
In the meantime, take good care of yourself, people.
